The
Eco-Club has members from year 3 to year 6 and meets on a Tuesday
lunch time. We have a working lunch – discussing plans for that
session whilst we are eating!
This
term we have had a complete revamp of the gardening area. Instead of
sharing an area with the reception classes, we have a purpose built
gardening area by the side entrance of Key Stage 1. This consists of
two stand alone raised beds and three vegetable pots. Shingle has been
put around the beds making it easier for the children to weed and dig
them.
We
also have a mini greenhouse which we planted cauliflower seeds in a
few weeks ago and have just started to sprout. These will be moved to
one of the vegetable plots when they get a little bigger. We have
already planted one of the plots with red onions and the other with
white onions and garlic. These should be ready by late spring; which
will be plenty of time to get our salad crop in.
With
the help of the Morrison vouchers we were able to purchase a number of
small spades, forks, trowels and labels – this has enabled everyone
to participate fully in the sessions. Thank you to everyone bought
vouchers in – last year and this year!
