The
eco-committee has a number of tasks: they stop the school's indoor
plants from dying; they are in charge of putting the fruit peel and
apple cores into the compost bin every break time; in the spring and
summer they look after the wild-life area and they re-label the large
envelopes in the office so that they can be re-used - to name just a
few of their jobs!
Last
summer we purchased two mushroom boxes which are 4 foot by 4 foot: we
marked them into square feet and planted a number of vegetables
(lettuce, green beans, radishes and tomatoes). The lettuce and radish
were very successful and the children regularly took them home,
however the tomatoes and beans harvested in the summer holidays, which
is something we need to think about this summer!
