We are fortunate at our school to have a PTFA that
is and has been an integral part of the school community for over 30
years. In its time the PTFA has raised thousands of pounds, which has
been spent on equipment and resources to enhance our children’s
educational experience and the school’s facilities.
Our PTFA
is about much more than simply fundraising.
The PTFA exists to provide closer links between home and school
and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends
together socially in support of the school, working towards a common
goal. All families are automatically members of the Hawkinge Primary
School PTFA when their child
joins our school.
Our PTFA committee consists of three Officers: Chair,
Treasurer and Secretary. We
also have between 6 and 10 ordinary committee members to make up the full committee. The
Committee meet on a regular basis usually once per term. Our Annual
General Meeting is held at the beginning
of the academic year and provides an opportunity for all parents to
come along and hear in more detail about the work of the PTFA, the events we have run, the funds we have raised and how the money
has been spent. It is also
the occasion when we elect our new committee members.
We are always looking for PTFA volunteers who can
commit some of their time to support the work of the PTFA such as
sourcing/providing raffle prizes, selling tickets, donating items for
the event, assisting at the event itself or providing resources and
contacts. Every little
helps and your support is invaluable.
How
we raise money
Like
most PTFAs, the majority of our funds are raised through the events
that we run. Some of our
most popular events are: The Summer fair, Easter Egg hunt, The
Christmas fair & Quiz nights. There is always something going on
and we are always looking to add more events to our core portfolio.
How
we spend the money we raise
Following a fundraising event
the money is banked straight away.
It is at our PTFA Committee meetings that the decisions on how
to spend the money are agreed.
Over the last few years we
have spent money on the following:
-
A large steel container
specially adapted as a PE shed and store
-
Sets of ‘Activote’
interactive voting buttons for each class member
-
Annual maintenance and
insurance of the adventure trail
-
An outdoor drum for the Mrs
Watson Sensory Garden
-
A portable sound system (this
is used at most events and at dance group)
-
Tea urn & BBQ’s
-
A Kate and William royal
wedding memento for every child
-
The Year 6 disco
As
of September 2011 a newsletter will be sent home once per term.
The letters will include information on forthcoming events and
dates plus requests for assistance, when we are planning large events.
Following a PTFA event, we will write to let you know how much
was raised, and if we can, we tell you what the money will be spent on.
How
you can get involved
There
are lots of ways you can help and support your child through the PTFA.
Offering to help before events or at other times during the year is so
valuable. It doesn’t
matter if you can’t help on a regular basis, or even if you cannot
come into school. There
are always jobs that can be done from home if you have half an hour to
spare e.g. wrapping gifts, preparing raffle tickets etc.
We really couldn’t achieve what we do without the behind the
scenes help that we receive. If you would like to be more involved you
can volunteer to be a Committee Member.
Message from our Headteacher,
Aly Ward
“I
have been part of the PTFA at
Hawkinge
Primary School
for 10 years and am very thankful for all the support they give the
school. The fund raising
events allow us to buy the “added extras” for children such as
playground games, listening stations etc.
The PTFA are a fun group of people to work with who work
tirelessly for the school. If
you fancy joining , they will make you feel very welcome”.
